Algae is the uninvited guest that never wants to leave. In Florida, preventing algae is a year-round battle. Prevention is far cheaper and easier than the cure.

1. Maintain Consistent Chlorine Levels

The moment your chlorine drops to near zero, algae spores can bloom. This often happens after heavy rains or heavy pool usage. check your levels at least weekly.

2. Brush, Brush, Brush

Algae loves to cling to porous surfaces like plaster. energetic brushing once a week disrupts the algae's protective slime layer and lets the chlorine do its work. Don't skip the walls and corners!

3. Circulation and Filtration

Dead spots with poor circulation are algae breeding grounds. Ensure your jets are pointed to create a circular flow. Clean your filter regularly so it can effectively trap spores.

4. Use Algaecide as Insurance

A weekly maintenance dose of a quality algaecide acts as a backup safety net. It helps prevent blooms even if your chlorine levels dip temporarily.

Summary

Process and routine are your best defense. A clean, well-circulated, and chemically balanced pool is an inhospitable environment for algae.
